Cost $100 + 35% markup → selling price $135, margin about 25.93%. Cost $100 with a 35% desired margin → selling price about $153.85.
FAQ
- What is markup?
- Markup is how much you add on top of cost, expressed as a percent of cost.
- What is margin?
- Gross margin is profit divided by selling price, expressed as a percent.
- Why can’t margin be 100%?
- A 100% margin would mean cost is zero relative to price in a way that breaks the cost ÷ (1 − margin) formula.
